Frequently Asked Questions

Prop B Housing Campaign

What is Prop B?

San Francisco’s Proposition B will amend the City Charter, creating a “Set-Aside” fund that pledges 2 ½ cents from every $100 dollars of assessed property value and guarantees that it will be spent on the development of much-needed affordable housing and related services in San Francisco.

Is it a new tax?

No new tax will be collected to fund the Prop B program. Transfer and Partnership Tax loopholes (Props N and Q, respectively) should be closed in order to fund it.

Who is affected?

People who are classified as Lower-Middle Income to people who are homeless will be qualified for the affordable housing developed by Prop B.

The advantages?

Prop B establishes a transparent government process that allows for public participation in deciding how funds are spent. This Charter Amendment will also guarantee a funding baseline for 15 years; Prop B will “sunset” in 2024.
